Aeva is building the next generation of sensing and perception for autonomous vehicles and beyond. With its unique ability to measure instantaneous velocity for each pixel, long-range performance at high resolutions, while being free from LiDAR or sunlight interference, Aeva’s 4D LiDAR is built from the ground up at silicon photonics scale for mass-market applications.

Role Overview:
The Product Design Engineer will be situated in the customer-facing Products org in the company and will be responsible for reimagining current product design concepts to meet prospective customer requirements. This role requires working cross-functionally w/ component and module engineering departments to design and enable novel yet practical products that align with both internal resource availability and external customer timelines.

What you'll be doing:

  • Understand the product design space in great detail to exploit the trade-offs in a meaningful way to meet prospective and current customer expectations
  • Conceptualize and design multi-physics system architectures that involve complex mechanical, optical and electrical sub-assemblies operating in harsh fail-safe environments
  • Prototype, design, assembly and validation to influence product direction
  • Design and execute lab-level and vehicle-level demonstration to communicate product concepts to customers
  • Interact with suppliers for DFM feedback, part quoting and procurement

What you have:

  • Ability to express your ideas in CAD in a fast moving collaborative environment  
  • Desire and ability to justify CAD using multi-physics simulations across optical, thermal, mechanical and electrical domains
  • Bachelors in a relevant field, and 5+ years of experience with product design, development and demonstration to internal/external stakeholders
  • Experience working with CAD softwares like Solidworks and simulation environments like ANSYS
  • Experience working with PLM softwares like TeamCenter or NX
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of geometric optics
  • Knowledge in manufacturing processes with various metal and plastic materials
  • Subject matter expertise in at least one area of : optics, optomechanics, laser scanning lidar rangefinding
  • Experience in a customer-facing role
